About Jim

Jim Smith has lived in Lynnwood for four decades and has served the community as a volunteer, businessman, and councilmember with 27 years of experience.

Jim was born in Seattle, graduated from Edmonds High School, and has two bachelor’s degrees from CWU: Business Administration and Law & Justice/Pre-law. He is happily married to Sherry, has four adult daughters and, two grandchildren. He and his wife live in the Lynndale area of Lynnwood.

“There are many important items we need to address in Lynnwood, but the three urgent priorities are reducing high taxes, increased homelessness with open drug use on our streets, as well as enhancing our public safety. I have known the heart and soul of Lynnwood for over four decades and promise to serve, and care for, all of our Lynnwood residents. I am committed to continuing to bring VisionExperience and Integrity to the City of Lynnwood.”

Dedicated to his community, Jim has been involved in multiple civic organizations throughout the years. For nine years he has been closely involved with the homeless and has worked with senior housing facilities providing over 200 “music therapy” shows each year.

The following is a list of his community involvement:

· Council President and Vice President

· Lynnwood Food Bank volunteer. Secured $50K funding for Food Bank truck specifically for aid during Covid-19

· LEOFF-1 Disability Board Member 14 years

· Created and produced a children’s Japanese Language and Culture class at Lynndale Elementary

· Chairman for the Snohomish County Board of Health/member 12 years

· Junior Achievement Instructor at Meadowdale Middle

· Provides over 200 music performances to Senior Housing facilities yearly

· Passed Tax Relief Plan for Lynnwood…Utility taxes

· Founder and President of The Lynnwood Chamber

· Personally produced and financed Lynnwood Christmas tree lighting for 13 years (Santa, free hot cocoa, kids chorus, provided sound system)

· Produced the Lynnwood fireworks 4th of July Celebration

· Provided Music for Lynndale Elementary Walk-a-Thon

· Lynnwood Library Board Liaison

· Lynnwood Fire Department Liaison

· Parks Board Liaison

· Human Services Commission Liaison

· State President of the Washington Pilots Association

· Established the Lynnwood Senior Center in Lynnwood

· Washington Air Search and Rescue member

· Angel Flight Volunteer Pilot

· Neighbors in Need volunteer as well as personally providing and financing hot food for the homeless - usually about 180 meals. Wife was NiN Chair

· Lynn-O-Rama Chairman (Lynnwood Festival) four years

· Rotary International member for 15 years

· Jaycee Local and State President

· Edmonds College Business Management Board

· South County Court Advisory Board

· Saved cuts to Drug Task Force

· Senior DeMolay member (Past Master Councilor)

· Lynnwood Rotary Air Fair Advertising Chairman

· Chaired the Lynnwood Jaycee’s Easter Egg Hunt
